II. DETAILs

Beginning therapy is not only an emotional decision, but often a practical one as well. Questions around scheduling, cost, insurance coverage, and overall fit are an important part of the process, and deserve the same level of care and consideration as the work itself.

We approach these conversations with clarity, transparency, and thoughtfulness, helping the the early stages of beginning therapy feel supportive and easier to navigate.

investment

Therapy is an investment of both resources and attention, asking not only for financial commitment, but for time, consistency, and a willingness to remain engaged with the work over time. Meaningful change rarely happens all at once. More often, it develops gradually, through sustained reflection and continued return.

Conversations around fees and accessibility are approached with openness and care. Rates are discussed during the initial consultation, along with any questions around financial fit or long-term sustainability. A limited number of sliding scale openings may be available based on need and availability. If treatment at Semble feels outside what is manageable, we are always happy to help guide people toward alternative providers and supportive resources for care.
For ease and flexibility, payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card.

COVERAGE

Semble operates as an out-of-network provider and is not directly paneled with insurance companies. Many insurance plans, however, offer out-of-network mental health benefits, which may allow for partial or full reimbursement depending on your specific coverage and plan.

Sessions are paid for directly, after which reimbursement can be sought through your insurance provider. To help make this process more manageable, we provide a monthly superbill containing the information typically needed for out-of-network claim submission. Coverage amounts and reimbursement timelines can vary widely across plans and providers.

Because navigating insurance can sometimes feel unfamiliar or overwhelming, we encourage prospective patients to contact their provider directly to better understand their benefits and eligibility for reimbursement.

Some helpful questions to ask may include:

  • Does my plan include out-of-network mental health or behavioral health benefits?

  • Is there an out-of-network deductible that must be met before reimbursement begins?

  • If so, how much of that deductible has already been met this year?

  • What is the “usual, customary, and reasonable” (UCR) fee covered for outpatient psychotherapy services within the 10011 ZIP code?

For reference, the following CPT codes may apply to your care needs:

    • Individual Therapy: CPT 90837

    • Couples Therapy: CPT 90847

    • Group Therapy: CPT 90853

  • What percentage of the session fee is eligible for reimbursement?

  • Are there session limits associated with my plan?

  • What documentation is required to submit out-of-network claims? (This is often referred to as a superbill and claims form.)

  • How and where are claims submitted, whether online or by mail?

We recognize that navigating insurance can feel unfamiliar or overwhelming at times, and are happy to help make the process feel more approachable where possible.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Creating a space that feels private, trustworthy, and emotionally safe is a foundational part of the therapeutic process. Information shared within therapy is kept confidential and protected in accordance with HIPAA privacy standards. Communication with outside providers, family members, or other individuals will only occur with written consent from the patient.

There are, however, a small number of legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality required by law. These include situations involving suspected abuse or neglect of a child, dependent adult, or elder; a serious threat of harm toward another person; or concern that someone may be at imminent risk of harming themselves.

Within group therapy, all members are asked to approach one another’s experiences with the same level of privacy and respect expected within individual treatment. While confidentiality within the practice is carefully protected, group participants are also asked to help maintain the integrity and trust of the shared therapeutic space by keeping the identities and personal disclosures of other members private outside the group.

SCHEDULING

Consistency is an important part of the therapeutic process, and reserved appointment times are held specifically for each individual, couple, or group member. Because these times are set aside in advance, missed sessions can impact both the continuity of the work and availability within the practice.

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we ask for at least seven days notice whenever possible. Sessions canceled within seven days of the scheduled appointment time are typically charged at the full session fee.

REACH OUT

You do not need to arrive with the right language, only a sense that something deserves more attention.
